Please remember that Chernobyl was designed, built & operated by people living under corrupt communism for so many decades they had no will do do anything correctly. No motivation whatsoever to do a decent job of anything, because the "reward" was all the same. Nothing!

Is it any wonder that the story about the tank crew trading their tank to a farmer for a case of vodka was true? Communism destroys the will to succeed at anything.

The USA governments at the state & federal level generally have laws that force acceptance of the lowest bidder for design, construction & operation, *if* they are deemed qualified. Even though the agencies that operate our nuke plants generally hire according to mandated quotas, insuring plenty of stupid people in charge, domestic nuke plants are vastly safer than their Russian counter-parts.

I think most here are aware of the toxins we face daily. As if our own locally wasn't enough, YES Russians around Chernobyl suffered, still are suffering & will be for a very long time. Of that, there is no doubt.

No thanks, We have our own issues. Have you tried talking to the government & the military upper echelon concerning the use of depleted uranium on weapons used in the middle east? Our returning soldiers are bringing it back with them. The cancer rates at the domestic production plants of these weapons is "interesting" too.

Please keep the nuke issues in perspective. The large anti-nuke groups have questionable funding sources. Could it be big oil behind all of it? Nawww! They're way too honest. Does it disappoint you that the use of petroleum derived plastic usage has increased quantitatively? Paper bags we once had at the stores are made of a renewable, recyclable, domestic resource that some prefer to hug rather than farm.

I can go on & on if you don't see a pattern yet. Speaking for myself, I certainly appreciate this site being a gathering place for diversified info, but I have to keep in mind that not everyone shares the same excitement level as me in every topic. So it is with everyone.

Research on health disorders resulting from petroleum-based chemicals used in consumer products and job environments are available from the links below. Petroleum based chemicals are being found to cause significant attritional effects to the nervous system and immune system after prolonged exposure. Illnesses identified in the medical research include adult and child cancers, numerous neurological disorders, immune system weakening, autoimmune disorders, asthma, allergies, infertility, miscarriage, and child behavior disorders including learning disabilities, mental retardation, hyperactivity and ADD (attention deficit disorders). Petroleum based chemicals are believed to cause these problems by a variety of routes including - impairing proper DNA (Gene) expression, weakening DNA Repair, accelerating gene loss, degeneration of the body's detoxification defenses (liver and kidneys) as well as gradual weakening of the brain's primary defense - (the Blood Brain Barrier). Identifying a specific chemical as the "original cause" of these health disorders is difficult and often overlooked as it typically requires years of exposure for the body's inherent defenses to weaken sufficiently to result in observable health problems. Also, many petroleum chemicals appear work in tandem to combine their harmful effects making specific identification even more difficult. However, once a chemically induced illness presents itself, a decline in health status appears to continue rapidly as long as exposure continues. Of significant concern, while petroleum based chemicals are required by the U.S. Government (EPA) to be tested for a variety of health effects, they are currently not required to be tested for causing subtle neurological damage (memory, personality, behavior etc), effects upon the developing brain during pregnancy, immune system effects, autoimmunity and effects upon the brain's primary defense - the blood brain barrier. Pesticides in Homes & Lawns Showing Serious Health Risks -
Common pesticides used in homes and lawns are now being shown in medical research to accelerate aging of the immune and nervous system resulting in serious health problems years after exposure. Companies which use these chemicals include TruGreen - ChemLawn - Orkin and others. The majority of the public still believes these chemicals are completely tested by the government. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Chemical companies do their own testing and submit the results to the EPA for review - setting up the potential for "selective" reporting. Learning Disabilities - A.D.D on the Rise - Pregnancy Warnings

A growing number of scientists are providing strong evidence as to why we are seeing more and more children with learning and behavior disorders over the past 30 years. I urge everyone to read THE REPORT FROM IRON MOUNTAIN, 1967. 42 years on ---we're seeing everything they advocated. Deliberate pollution is just one avenue.

You should be more worried about the high tension wires near everyone's house (including mine!).

You are correct sir. The plant will not kill you. The radiation. It's the radiation. And the high tension lines near your house, (not mine, I live off grid), are killing you, just slower. But I am not concerned with only your safety. The genetic damage done to your children, and theirs, will likely be more troubling. What a terrible legacy.

Go back to sleep. Drink your fluoride. Take your Prozac. Everything will be fine.
