Major 7.4-magnitude quake hits near Japanese islands: USGS

December 21, 2010
TOKYO A major 7.4-magnitude quake struck southern Japan Wednesday, the US Geological Survey said, with people in nearby coastal regions told to evacuate as a foot-high tsunami rolled in. The quake hit at 2:19 am local time (1719 GMT Tuesday), 153 kilometres (95 miles) east of Chichi-shima in Japan's remote Bonin island region and at a shallow depth of just 14 kilometres. There were no immediate reports of damage or injury but a tsunami of 30 centimetres (one foot) hit the island chain, according to Japanese television broadcasts. The meteorological agency had warned that two-metre waves were expected to hit the archipelago, known locally as the Ogasawara islands, and told people living near the coast to evacuate to higher ground. But Japan later downgraded the alert to a warning of small waves. The Bonin island chain, made up of more than 30 subtropical and tropical islets some 1,000 kilometres south of Tokyo and 240 kilometres north of Iwo Jima, have a population of just 2,700, according to the 2005 national census. The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a destructive widespread tsunami and no nearby islands are thought to be in the tsunami danger zone. But it warned in a bulletin: "Earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within 100 kilometres of the earthquake epicentre. "Authorities in the region of the epicentre should be aware of this possibility and take appropriate action." The quake was followed just over 20 minutes later by two aftershocks, a minute apart, of 5.6-magnitude just 10 kilometres deep, followed by two of 5.4-magnitude soon after, the USGS said. Around 20 percent of the world's most powerful earthquakes strike Japan, which sits on the "Ring of Fire" surrounding the Pacific Ocean. In 1995 a magnitude-7.2 quake in the port city of Kobe killed 6,400 people. But high building standards, regular drills and a sophisticated tsunami warning system mean that casualties are often minimal.

On Ligonier:
I like the fact that God has always reserved unto Himself 7000 of His people that have not bent the knee to Baal
"But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the i...mage of Baal. Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace." Romans 11:4-5

This would apply to every generation, as God did not proclaim that He had put and end to it, and the remanent as echoed by Paul. Today however, for whatever odd reasoning, we have thought the Jew to have found an end to God's mercy and grace, and the warning is so clear, that if He can do this to the Jew, then why could He not do it unto the Christian? The same God made a covenant unto the Jew as did Christ unto His Bride, for the Jew looked ahead in time, while we look into a rearview mirror. I am often amazed at how man/womankind can discount the promise to which God swore unto Himself as there was no greater, that as long as the sun, moon, stars were in their place, and until humanity can accurately measure and number the sand and the length of the universe(s) which the Cosmos is without ending, that God would honor that of the covenant of the Jew. Even going as far as telling us as to what the "new" covenant of the Jew would become in Hebrews 8:8-11 "For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."
Now to me, two things standout boldly and the one is over a span of 2000-70 years being 1,948 years, this was not kept with the house of Judah or that of Israel, as both were not found all this time, until this recent generation to which God also predicted they would not be accepted or received by the church (some) or the world, ending in the war we term as the, "Time of Jacob's Trouble".
The other is, if we should conclude that the Jew has become the church, thus the state being eliminated, then why am I typing this in a place dedicated to teaching every man his neighbor about the LORD, as God has declared this will not occur, not maybe, but it will not occur, as all shall know Him from the least to the greatest, which seems to cover just about every single person.
I am so thankful, that God has found a place in my heart for the people of their fathers and unto our God.
It seems the world is moving back into the pre-1940s era and the hatred and dismissal of the Jewish peoples, seems we never comprehend anything from history, just doomed to be repeated every generation or so, creatures of habit, I suppose. ...I am so thankful that God has not forgotten me in my rebellions toward Him, wouldn't it be horrible if God wrote us off for our sins, even after we had received His Son as our Savior? Israel was on and off again, over the many years of walking through history, sounds a lot like myself, but then again, I am only human, the real beauty of God I have found, is that He doesn't forget me, when I forget me, nor is He surprised when I am in rebellion, it is like He somehow knew I would/was, and yet He still loved me, how great is His love and marvellous His way. Wonder what would happen if we began to pray for the Jewish people, Paul was willing to give his life for them, not to many American Christians would be willing to give their life for their own family, much less the stranger who is called American, wonder why Paul felt that way?

He fiddled his time to death
A young man was jogging on the beach with his earphones listening to music etc.., the crowd was screaming to him - he heard nothing! Hit in the back of the head, totally unaware of his own death, he either met his maker in a matter of a second, or he entered into his eternal damnation. The Bible states that some were brought up from hell, some from the sea, some where they fell, but all for the White Throne judgment of God. Are you ready should suddenly, without notice or warning, your time was up? This judgment included those who died before Christ as they came from the sea or where they fell, the others came after the cross or resurrection from the place of burning hell, time is closing, are you sure Christ is in you, your hope of glory, or are you following religion? When you stand before the King, He will not state were you a good Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian etc.., He will only see the blood of Christ upon your soul or He will say, "Depart from me ye workers of iniquity for I know you not", are you sure?
