Patrick J. Frawley, Jr. - Heir to the Schick razor fortune

Quote:
Patrick Frawley Jr., 75, Ex-Owner of Schick

By ROBERT MCG. THOMAS JR.
Published: November 9, 1998

Patrick J. Frawley Jr., a high school dropout who made millions of dollars in business, gave millions to conservative causes and candidates, then made it his business and his life's work to combat alcohol and drug addiction, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. He was 75 and lived in Agoura, Calif.

His family said he died during surgery for lung cancer.

For Mr. Frawley, an independent-minded entrepreneur who tended to see opportunities where others saw obstacles, the road to riches was paved with ball-point pens that would not leak, razor blades that would not rust and a political zeal that would not quit.

In quick succession, he made a fortune as the creator of the leak-proof Paper Mate pen, expanded it with the introduction of stainless-steel blades for Schick razors and then, following the Communist takeover of a Schick plant in Cuba, was quickly transformed from an essentially apolitical businessman into a leading stalwart of the American right, financing an array of conservative organizations.

Mr. Frawley was also not reluctant to use Schick's advertising bud get as a weapon in the cold war. When ABC News once broadcast a documentary in which Alger Hiss attacked Richard M. Nixon, Mr. Frawley tried to cancel $3 million worth of scheduled advertising. The network declined to let him out of the contract.

To say that Mr. Frawley was given to instant and excessive enthusiasms would hardly do justice to a man who became so enamored of the negative-reinforcement therapy that Shadel Hospital in Seattle used to cure his drinking problem that he bought the hospital for Schick, renamed it Schick Shadel and retained it when he sold Schick to Warner Lambert in 1970. He later expanded it into a chain of treatment centers.

Where Mr. Frawley got his enthusiasm is not clear, but his entrepreneurial instincts seem to have been inherited from his father, an Irish-born professor of literature who went to Nicaragua for his health and variously became a banker, import-exporter and dealer in heavy equipment.

Though Mr. Frawley was born in Leon, Nicaragua, and his mother was French and Spanish, he spent his boyhood with relatives in San Francisco so he could attend American schools. But he dropped out at 16 and returned to Nicaragua to work with his father. He learned how to wheel and deal so well that at 18 he arranged for the sale of $300,000 worth of tires to the Panamanian Government.

As the son of a British national, Mr. Frawley, who eventually became an American citizen, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II, married a Canadian and settled in San Francisco, where he engaged in a series of business ventures until, through a default on a loan he had made, he was stuck with a failed manufacturer of parts for ball-point pens.

Taking advantage of an improved new ink, Mr. Frawley turned the company into Paper Mate, trumpeted the pen's leak-proof properties and built the company into a runaway success in a booming new industry. In 1955, at age 32, he was able to sell it to Gillette for $15.1 million.

Casting around for new opportunities, Mr. Frawley found two and, typically, pursued them both, more or less simultaneously taking over Eversharp Inc., Schick's parent, and Technicolor Inc., the Los Angeles-based film processing company.

While Schick's introduction of stainless-steel blades made it an industry giant, under Mr. Frawley Technicolor achieved little more than a footnote to business history: the development of a film-cartridge system, a premature technological innovation that would have been rather more successful had the cartridges contained videotape instead of film.

Mr. Frawley's control of Technicolor was not totally uneventful. When it was discovered that George Murphy, the onetime actor who had resigned as a Technicolor executive when he entered the Senate in 1965, had remained on the Technicolor payroll for most of his term, the disclosure helped lead to Mr. Murphy's defeat by John V. Tunney, and Mr. Frawley's ouster from Technicolor in 1970.

Another knight who moves in New Right circles is Patrick J. Frawley, whose fortune derives from the Schick razor empire. In the early 1960s Frawley co-founded a group called the Christian Anti-Communist Crusade. He is also closely involved with the American Security Council, a cold war fraternity that lobbies persistently for a strong military and intelligence apparatus. Frawley-controlled companies own a number of right-wing Catholic media outlets, including Twin Circles magazine and the National Catholic Register. Frawley's wife, Geradine, is publisher of the Register. She is also a Dame of Malta and a leading member of the Right to Life League.

Rabb was a Trustee of the AHF between April 1969 and August 1974. He was a partner of Stroock Stroock & Lavan.

"Maxwell M. Rabb '35 of New York City died June 9, 2002. He began his career practicing law in Boston with his brother George and then joined Massachusetts Senator Henry Cabot Lodge Jr.'s administrative staff in Washington, D.C. He also served as administrative assistant to Senators Leverett Saltonstall and Sinclair Weeks. After WWII, he became legal consultant to Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal. Rabb returned to Boston in 1946 to resume his law practice and later helped organize the draft-Eisenhower campaign, beginning his long association with Republican presidents. He served five U.S. presidents in various roles--including secretary of the Cabinet, U.S. ambassador to Italy, chairman of the U.S. delegation to UNESCO, member of the Presidential Commission on Income Maintenance Programs, and member of the presidential panel on India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh--and was the U.S. delegate to the World Bank. He returned to his law practice in the late 1980s." (In Memoriam - Harvard Law Bulletin, Fall 2002.)

Rabb was a member of Eisenhower's election campaign staff in 1952; the President's associate counsel in 1953; and Secretary to the Cabinet, 1953-1958. He was a correspondent of former Kohn, Loeb banker Lewis Lichtenstein Strauss between 1959 and 1971.

Graduated from Harvard Law School in 1935. Long time New York lawyer in between government appointments. Administrative assistant to Senator Henry Cabot Lodge 1937-1943, who became a member of the Pilgrims Society's executive committee. Legal and legislative counsel to Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal at the end of WWII, who was a banker at Dillon Read (funded the Nazis through a partnership with the Thyssens), and the person who supposedly helped put together Majestic-12. Assistant to President Eisenhower 1953-1959. Member of the Executive Committee of the U.S. Commission for UNESCO 1959-1960. Chair of the US delegation to UNESCO in Paris. Said to have gone into business with Ed Levinson, a Meyer Lansky associate, when he left the Eisenhower government. Accused of numerous other mafia connections. Long time director of Sterling National Bank, which was founded by the New York mafia and was accused in the 1980s of having laundered millions of dollars from Michele Sindona (worked with every mafia boss in Italy and the US; one of the most trusted Vatican financiers in the 60s and 70s; business partner of the Mormon bishop David M. Kennedy (Bohemian Grove camp Mandalay) to whom he was introduced by Bishop Paul Marcinkus of the Vatican Bank in 1963; funneled Opus Dei money to SMOM member Prince Valerio Borghese in 1965, a leader of the post-WWII Fascist International, together with the House of Savoy and Otto Skorzeny; business partner of Roberto Calvi since 1968; praised by Giulio Andreotti, the hidden head of the P-2 Lodge, an Opus Dei member, and a member of Le Cercle; close associate of Licio Gelli, the official head of the P-2 Lodge; due to excessive speculation his financial empire crumbled in the mid-1970s; ended up in jail for life, and after he threatened to talk, he was found poisened by cyanide in a maximum security prison). Friend of Prince Bernhard. Largest shareholder of Finance International (Intercontinental), a London firm headed by 1001 Club member and known swindler Ali Ahmed, who was rumored to have been involved in large-scale diamond, gold, and weapons smuggle in the 1940s and 1950s. Finance International had a business alliance with the Dutch firm Comtrax since 1966. Comtrax was founded in 1940 and acted as a front company for British intelligence during WWII. On the other hand, its founder and head, Guillaume Meertens, was the favorite agent of Klaus Barbie when the latter was stationed in Holland. Some suspect Comtrax of having been a key firm in evacuating some of the Nazis in the wake of WWII. Ferdinand Grapperhaus of the 1001 Club was also involved with Comtrax. Meertens would introduce Prince Bernhard and Ali Ahmed to the French Edmond de Rothschild at about the time of the business alliance. Edmond is said to have been a business partner of Michele Sindona. Member of the CFR since the late 1970s. US Ambassador to Italy 1981-1989. Received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Knights of Malta in 1989. Director of Sister City Program City of New York, MIC Industries, and Data Software Systems Inc. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands - Bilderberger; Club of Rome; Major Shell Shareholder

Quote:
Beatrix (Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard); born 31 January 193 has been the Queen regnant of the The Netherlands since 30 April 1980, when her mother, Queen Juliana, abdicated.

Early life of the Queen

Queen Beatrix is daughter of the late Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, Prince of Lippe-Biesterfeld. Her godparents are King Leopold III of Belgium, Duke Adolf Friedrich of Mecklenburg (brother of her maternal grandfather Prince Hendrik), Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, and Allene Countess de Kotzebue.

Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands is a direct descendant of Sophia, Electress of Hanover via her great-granddaughter Anne, Princess Royal (1709–1759). The queen could claim British nationality because of her descent from Sophia, based on The Act for the Naturalization of the Most Excellent Princess Sophia, Electress and Duchess Dowager of Hanover, and the Issue of her Body (the Sophia Naturalization Act) from 1705, as she was born before the act was repealed in 1948.

When the queen was a young girl, the Dutch royal family fled the German invasion of the Netherlands in World War II, moving to Britain in May, 1940, and then to Ottawa, Canada. The family lived at Stornoway, now the official residence of the Leader of the Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition in Canada. She attended Rockcliffe Park Public School, during their exile in Canada.

Education

While in Canada, Princess Beatrix attended nursery and primary school. On her return to the Netherlands, she continued her primary education at The Workshop (De Werkplaats), Kees Boeke's progressive school in Bilthoven. In April 1950, Princess Beatrix entered the Incrementum, a part of Baarnsch Lyceum, where, in 1956, she passed her school-graduation examinations in the subjects of arts and classics.

On January 31, 1956, Princess Beatrix celebrated her 18th birthday. From that date, under the Constitution of the Netherlands, she was entitled to assume the Royal Prerogative. At that time, her mother installed her in the Council of State.

Princess Beatrix began her university studies the same year, at Leiden University. In her first years at the university, she attended lectures in sociology, jurisprudence, economics, parliamentary history and constitutional law. In the course of her studies she also attended lectures on the cultures of Suriname and the Netherlands Antilles, the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands, international affairs, international law, history and European law.

While at the university, the Princess visited various European and international organisations in Geneva, Strasbourg, Paris, and Brussels. She was also an active member of the Leiden Women Students' Association. In the summer of 1959, she passed her preliminary examination in law, and she obtained her law degree in July 1961.

Quote:
Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands granted a royal charter to a small oil exploration company founded in 1890 by Jean Kessler, along with Henri Deterding and Hugo Loudon, which evolved into the Royal Dutch Petroleum Company. Queen Wilhelmina was a very shrewd investor and became the wealthiest woman in the world. At one time, the Dutch royals apparently owned as much as 25% of the oil company.

The Dutch royal family (The House of Orange) is still reportedly the biggest shareholder in the Dutch part of the group, although the size of its stake has long been a source of debate. Queen Beatrix, a billionaire in her own right, is the current head of the Dutch royal family.

Steve, Barron & Matt Hilton

Quote:
Barron Hilton

Chairman, Hilton Hotels Corporation

October 23, 1927 - )
Barron Hilton was born on October 23, 1927 in Dallas, Texas. In 1935, he moved to Southern California, where he continues to make his home today.

This inductee has proven his business acumen in a variety of industries. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a photographer, his first business venture was the acquisition of a Los Angeles area distributorship of Vita-Pakt Citrus Products, an orange juice business that processed and delivered the juice house-to-house. In 1960, he entered the arena of professional sports, founding the Los Angeles Chargers professional football team, and later moving them to San Diego. This inductee was also a founder and served as president of the American Football League.

In 1954, Mr. Hilton joined Hilton Hotels as vice president, and in 1966, he assumed the responsibility as president and chief executive officer of Hilton Hotels Corporation. In February of 1979, he assumed the additional responsibility of chairman of the board. He is credited with expanding Hilton Hotels' credit card operation into the universal Carte Blanche system and was also responsible for developing the Hilton Inn franchise program.

Barron Hilton expanded his company into Nevada gaming with the purchase of the Las Vegas Hilton and the Flamingo Hilton in 1970. These two hotel/casinos accounted for roughly half of the company's total operating income and made Hilton Hotels Corporation the first FORTUNE 500 and New York Stock Exchange company to enter the gaming business. In 1982, Hilton Hotels Corporation re-entered the international market by introducing the Conrad International Hotels brand name. Today, Hilton Hotels Corporation has 499 properties worldwide with a total of 147,667 rooms.

In September 1956, Barron Hilton formed the Air Finance Corporation for the purpose of leasing aircraft to commercial airlines. On a personal note, this inductee is an avid aviation enthusiast who owns and flies his own biplane, helicopter, aerobatic planes, several hot air balloons, and sailplanes, for which he hosts an annual competition. He has also been instrumental in the quest to fly a balloon around the world, backing attempts by the Earthwinds Hilton, Global Hilton and Global Quest teams.

Barron Hilton was instrumental in the initial gift of $1.5 million to build the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management, as well as the subsequent donation that made possible the construction of the College's South Wing complex. He has also given of his time to numerous organizations, such as serving as Trustee of the City of Hope, Saint John's Hospital, the Health Center Foundation, and the World Mercy Fund. He is a Chevalier of the Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, and has been involved with the Mutual of Omaha Crisis Award, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, and the PEACE Foundation Council. In 1998, Pope John II admitted both Barron and Marilyn Hilton into the Pontifical Order of St. Gregory the Great.

John Alexander McCone – CIA Director

Quote:
John Alexander McCone (January 4, 1902 - February 14, 1991) was an American businessman and politician who served as Director of Central Intelligence during the height of the Cold War.

McCone was born in San Francisco, California, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1922 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. A prominent industrialist, McCone also served for more than twenty years as a governmental advisor and official. Most importantly, he was chair of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (1958 - 1961) and Director of Central Intelligence (CIA) (1961 - 1965).

According to journalist Seymour Hersh, in December 1960, while still Atomic Energy Commission chair, McCone revealed CIA information about Israel's Dimona nuclear weapons plant to the New York Times. Hersh writes that President John F. Kennedy was "fixated" on the Israeli nuclear weapons program and appointed McCone CIA director in part because of his willingness to deal with this and other nuclear weapons issues - and despite the fact that McCone was a Republican.[1]

He was a key player in the Executive Committee of the National Security Council Excomm during the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. In the Honeymoon telegram of September 20, 1962, he insisted that the CIA remain imaginative when it came to Soviet weapons policy towards Cuba, as a September 19 National Intelligence Estimate had concluded it unlikely that nuclear missiles would be placed on the island. (The telegram was so named because McCone sent it while on his honeymoon in Paris, France, accompanied not only by his bride, but by a CIA cypher team as well.)

McCone's suspicions of the inaccuracy of this assessment proved to be correct, as it was later found out the Soviet Union had followed up its conventional military build up with the installation of MRBM's (Medium Range Ballistic Missiles) and IRBM's (Intermediate Range Ballistic Missiles), sparking off the crisis in October when they were later spotted by CIA's Lockheed U-2 surveillance flights.

McCone resigned from his position of DCI in April 1965, believing himself to be unappreciated by President Lyndon B. Johnson, who he complained, would not read his reports, including on the need for full-fledged inspections of Israeli nuclear facilities.[2] Upon his resignation, McCone submitted a final policy memorandum to Johnson arguing that Johnson's expansion of the war in Vietnam would arouse national and world discontent before it brought down the North Vietnamese regime.[citation needed]

Throughout his career, McCone served on numerous commissions that made recommendations on issues as diverse as civilian applications of military technology and the Watts riots.[3]

Quote:
Jim Garrison clearly proved the CIA was involved in the assassination through Clay Shaw. He writes:

'...we discovered Shaw's extensive international role as an employee of the CIA. Shaw's secret life as an Agency man in Rome, trying to bring Fascism back to Italy, was exposed in articles in the Italian press.... To me among the most significant revelations were...the confirmation by both Victor Marchetti and Richard Helms that Clay Shaw had been an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency.' [On The Trail Of The Assassins, Jim Garrison, 1991]

And who was the Director of the CIA in 1963? It was Knight of Malta John McCone. Prior to that McCone had been a defense contractor who had formally headed the Atomic Energy Commission. Later in 1970, he was a board member of ITT while remaining a CIA consultant. Marchetti tells us:

'[The] ITT board member who later admitted to a Senate investigative committee that he had played the key role in bringing together CIA and ITT officials was John McCone, director of the CIA during the Kennedy administration and, in 1970, a CIA consultant.' [The CIA And The Cult Of Intelligence, Victor Marchetti, 1975]

Cardinal Spellman's soldier, John McCone, Director of the CIA, participated in the Kennedy assassination.

William Egan Colby – CIA Director

Quote:
William Egan Colby (January 4, 1920 – April 27, 1996) spent a career in intelligence for the United States, culminating in holding the post of Director of Central Intelligence from September, 1973, to January, 1976.

During World War II Colby served with the Office of Strategic Services. After the war he joined the newly created CIA. Before and during the Vietnam War, Colby served as Chief of Station in Saigon, Chief of CIA's Far East Division, and head of the Civil Operations and Rural Development effort; he was responsible for the Phoenix Program. After Vietnam, Colby became Director of Central Intelligence and during his tenure revealed a large amount of information about U.S. intelligence activities to the Church Committee. Colby served as DCI under President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford and was replaced by future President George H.W. Bush on January 30, 1976.

Early life and family

William Egan Colby was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1920. His father, Elbridge Colby, was a professor of English and an Army officer who served in the Army and in university positions in Tientsin, China; Georgia; Vermont; and Washington, DC. His grandfather, Charles Colby, had been a professor of chemistry at Columbia University but had died prematurely. William Colby attended public high school in Burlington, Vermont and then Princeton University, graduating in 1940 and entering Columbia Law School the following year.

Colby was for most of his life a staunch Roman Catholic.[1] He was often referred to as "the warrior-priest." He married Barbara Heinzen in 1945 and they had five children. In 1984 he divorced her and married Democratic diplomat Sally A. Shelton.

Office of Strategic Services

Colby volunteered for the Army and served with the Office of Strategic Services during World War II, parachuting behind enemy lines twice and earning the Silver Star as well as commendations from Norway, France, and Great Britain. In his first mission he deployed to France as a Jedburgh commanding Team BRUCE, in mid-August 1944, and operated with the Maquis until he joined up with Allied forces later that fall. In April of 1945, he led the NORSO Group into Norway on a sabotage mission designed to tie down German forces in Norway from reinforcing the final defense of Germany. After the war, Colby graduated from Columbia Law School and then briefly practiced law in William Joseph Donovan's New York firm. Bored by the practice of law and inspired by his liberal beliefs, he moved to Washington to work for the National Labor Relations Board.

Central Intelligence Agency

Shortly thereafter, an OSS friend offered him a job at the CIA, and Colby accepted. Colby spent the next twelve years in the field, first in Stockholm, Sweden. There, he helped set up the stay-behind networks of Gladio, a covert paramilitary organization organized by the CIA to make any Soviet occupation more difficult, as he later described in his memoirs.[2]

Colby then spent much of the 1950s based in Rome, where he led the Agency's covert political operations campaign to support anti-Communist parties in their electoral contests against left wing, Soviet Union-associated parties. The Christian Democrat and allied parties won several key elections in the 1950s, preventing a takeover by the Communist Party.

Vietnam

In 1959, Colby became the CIA's Deputy Chief and then Chief of Station in Saigon, Vietnam, where he served until 1962. In 1962 he returned to Washington to become the Deputy and then Chief of CIA's Far East Division. During these years he was deeply involved in Washington's policies in East Asia, particularly with respect to Vietnam, as well as Indonesia, Japan, Korea, and China. He was deeply critical of the Kennedy Administration's decision to abandon support for Republic of Vietnam President Ngo Dinh Diem, and believed this played a material part in the weakening of the South Vietnamese position in the years following. In 1968, despite preparing to take up the post of Chief of Station Moscow, President Johnson sent Colby back to Vietnam as Deputy to Robert Komer, who had been charged with streamlining the civilian side of the American efforts against the Communists. Shortly after arriving Colby succeeded Komer as head of the U.S./South Vietnamese rural pacification effort. This was an attempt to quell the Communist insurgency in South Vietnam. Part of the effort was the controversial Phoenix Program, an initiative designed to identify and attack the "Viet Cong Infrastructure". There is considerable debate about the merits of the program, which has been alleged to have involved assassination and torture. Along with Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker and MACV Commander General Creighton Abrams, Colby was part of a leadership group that worked to apply a new approach to the war. Some, including Colby later in life, argue that this approach succeeded in quelling the Communist insurgency in South Vietnam, but that South Vietnam, abandoned by the United States after the 1973 peace accords, was ultimately overwhelmed by a conventional North Vietnamese assault.

Quote:
The Phoenix Program was concocted by CIA's Far East Division Chief, William Colby (Jesuit trained, Knight of Malta; WWII "Vatican Ratline" operative: working in the Vatican with James Jesus Angleton {awarded the Sovereign Military Order of Malta by Pope Pius XII for rescuing Prince Valerio Burghese/"Black Prince": leader of the neo-fascist syndicate: "Movimento Sociale Italiano" from a twelve year prison sentence given him at Nuremberg} who was an operative in the assassination of John Kennedy), was implemented by CIA station chief, William Casey (Sovereign Knight of Malta: "Vatican Ratline" operative). Tom Ridge (Knight of Columbus), Oliver North and Bob Kerry (Nebraska Senator) were among the operatives in the Phoenix Program (genocide).

Quote:
At least five (5) directors of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) have been papal Knights of Malta: William “Wild Bill” Donovan, John McCone, William Casey, William Colby, and George Tenet.

If at least five directors of the powerful CIA had come from the Austin, Texas Rotary Club, or the Austin, Texas Lions’ Club (or from our hometown Rotary Club or Lions’ Club), then wouldn’t we Americans be suspicious that there might be a “good old boys’ club” running the CIA? Shouldn’t such important “news” be of interest to the American people? Shouldn’t we expect that all of the “alternative media” would be reporting such “news” to us? Well, at least five directors of the powerful CIA came from a Roman Catholic military order, the Sovereign Military Order of Malta – i.e., the Knights of Malta – an organization subordinate to the Jesuit Superior General. Isn’t that worthy of being reported by all of the “alternative media”? Doesn’t having so many of its men at the top of the CIA give the Vatican a whole lot of control over what transpires in the USA – especially in the arena of intelligence and “Black Ops”?

Quote:
The American section of the SMOM is one of the main channels of communication be-tween the CIA and the Vatican. Of course, neither party will acknowledge this. "The Knights of Malta is an honorific society of Catholics. That's all it is. ... It has no political function," asserts former CIA director William Colby, who declined an invitation to join the illustrious order. ("I'm a little lower key," he confessed.)

Quote:
Earlier, Bill Colby, who headed the spy agency during the Vietnam War era was approached to become a member but declined. Other senior CIA knights included William Buckley and John McCone. On the US military side General Alexander Haig was appointed a knight of SMOM. This almost unbroken but subterranean connection between the two is reported to extend to the current DCI, George Tenet, according to a former CIA source.

General Alexander Meigs Haig, Jr. - US Secretary of State; White House Chief of Staff; Vice Chief of Staff of the Army; Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR); Supreme Allied Commander of NATO

Quote:
Alexander Meigs Haig, Jr. (born December 2, 1924) is a retired four-star general in the United States Army who served as the U.S. Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan and White House Chief of Staff under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.[1] In 1973 Haig served as Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, the number two ranking officer in the Army.[2] From 1974-79, Haig served as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), the ex officio commander of the all U.S. and NATO forces in Europe. Haig is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, the Army's second highest medal for heroism, as well as the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.[3]

Education

Haig attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia and graduated from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. He then went to the University of Notre Dame for one year before transferring to and graduating from West Point in 1947. He studied business administration at Columbia Business School in 1954 and 1955. He also received a Masters degree in International Relations from Georgetown University in 1961 where his thesis focused on the role of the military officer in the making of national policy.

Haig is a member of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) Board of Advisors.

Haig was a founding Board Member of America Online.[citation needed]

On January 5, 2006, Haig participated in a meeting at the White House of former Secretaries of Defense and State to discuss United States foreign policy with Bush administration officials.[citation needed]

On May 12, 2006, Haig participated in a second White House meeting with 10 former Secretaries of State and Defense. The meeting including briefings by Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice, and was followed by a discussion with President George W. Bush.[16]

Haig published his memoirs, entitled Inner Circles: How America Changed The World, in 1992.

Quote:
Honegger points to Alexander Haig, later to become the Secretary of State under Ronald Reagan, as having been made an "honorary" (non-Italian) member of P-2 prior to 1980. Honegger further states that Licio Gelli, finance wizard Michele Sindona, Alexander Haig, and CIA Director William Casey "were also reportedly members of the Vatican's military order, the Knights of Malta, whose initiates must take an oath of allegiance to the Pope." Furthermore, P-2 is linked to the Mafia, which also seems to have played a part in the October Surprise plot; writes Honegger: "A number of press reports, taken together, suggest that there may have been a P-2 and Gambino Mafia connection to the release of the fifty-two American hostages from the U.S. embassy in Tehran."

Alexander Haig -- A long-time protege of the Pentagon "Iron Mentor" Fritz Kraemer, [101] Haig extended favors and NATO links to the fascist cell in Italy known as P-2 or Propaganda Due, whose "puppetmaster," Licio Gelli, worked with Franco and Mussolini and shares dual citizenship in Italy and Argentina.[102] The involvement of high government officials in this secret order of Free-Masons scandalized and rocked the whole Italian government, and opened the ensuing scandal of Banco Ambrosiano and the Vatican Bank's missing billions.[103] Many of the key figures are either imprisoned (Licio Gelli and Michele Sindona, former head of the Vatican Bank) or dead (Roberto Calvi, known as "God's Banker," found hanging beneath Blackfriar's Bridge in London.) [104] Haig has just been knighted into the secretive Knights of Malta, which includes his brother, and prestigious members like William Colby (CIA), William F. Buckley (CIA), J. Peter Grace, John McCone (CIA), General Vernon Walters (Reagan's "roving ambassador"), James Angleton (CIA), and others.[105]
