Thanks Shikinah. This thread took an awful lot of time to put together. and is one of the few threads where that time seems to have paid off big-time. As I have gotten many of these responses from those who read through this thread, both public and private. I am glad it helps so many people in their understandings.

My only regret is that the thread itself is quite disjointed, and not nearly as congruent along any particular time-line i would like to present. I just wish I had the time to go through this thread and remake it, filling in all the gaps and neccessary areas. And yet, it still seems to do the job just fine in enlightening people.

Were there any particular things that wowed you or stood out?

How did the “Star of David” become the state of Israel’s symbol?

When I was a young boy, I would doodle the “Star of David” (or the Magen David; meaning literally the “Shield of David” as if??!), on just about everything I could. I had the ignorance of a young child indeed, believing that this symbol was something that perhaps King David himself donned somewhere within his domain, perhaps on the city gate walls, etc. etc.

Ignorance is the correct word for my past understanding. For the Star of “David” was definetly not used by David the slayer of Goliath!;

The Shield of David is not mentioned in ancient rabbinic literature. Notably, not a single archaeological proof exists concerning the use of this symbol in the Land of Israel during BCE. Scientists say that it probably was not a widely recognized symbol in the Israel of the Second Temple era.

So we can see it does not take Sherlock Holmes to deduce that King David did NOT use the modern symbol called the “Star of David”.
