Arrow The World Trade Center Picture History Thread

We are working on various research projects which will require us looking through literally all of the world trade center pictures we can find, pre-911.

If everyone here donates just a few every week to the thread, we will have nearly all the pictures of the world trade center available for observation. We are especially looking for daytime pictures of the WTC showing lights on; But we are also looking for every picture every snapped. We want to pour through them all. We are in search of now. But can't really say everything we are looking for. But some of the things we are looking for should be obvious to any of you who have been faithfully following this research since it started 5 - 6 months ago. However,pictures which can be dated with when they were snapped are at a premium, so if that info is present with the picture, please be sure to post that as well. Also, please post the original link to all pictures you post so we know where to look for more information on the picture itself.

I will kick the thread off with some of my own which I will donate to the research project;

Now its your turn to help and donate some pictures to the WTC picture thread!

Cheers-
Phil

    My Lego WTC was built before the terrorist attacks. It was 5.5 feet tall, and contained over 12,500 pieces. It was accidentally knocked over by a friend in April 2001.

    About this creation
    I have gone through three version of the World Trade Center. This is Version 1, from April 2000.

    Enlarge image I made this building long before the terrorist attacks. It wasn't a political statement, it didn't have anything to do with death or war or anti war or anything. It was just a really cool set of buildings. My Lego WTC project started in April 2000 and took almost a year to gather the parts needed. The first of the Twin Towers was done in February 2001. In April 2001, it was accidenially knocked over by a friend.

    Here's a picture of me with the tower right when I finished it in April 2001. It's about 6 feet tall.

    Not saying they are the same person, but I recognized this girls similarities to one of the passengers of 9/11, Honor Elizabeth Wainio: And wanted to post it so I can see them together;

    Honor Elizabeth Wainio

    United Flight 93

    The birthday presents are still wrapped, sitting on her mother's bed in Florida.

    Elizabeth Wainio would have turned 28 on Oct. 8. For her birthday, she had planned to come to Florida from New Jersey to rest and see her mother's new home.

    As district manager for the Discovery Store in New York and New Jersey, Wainio worked long hours and flew all over the country.

    Just two days before she was supposed to fly to San Francisco for work, she returned home from Europe. Wainio had seen a friend get married in Italy. She had visited Paris with another friend, ate lunch along the Champs-Elysees, and walked inside a church where she lit a candle for her grandmother.

    Wainio had always told her mother, Mary White, that if she ever got to see Paris, she could die happy.

    After she got home, she called her mother, Mary White, and talked briefly. She talked about her trip. She said she was looking forward to eating her mother's spaghetti. She said she needed to go, to check her e-mail and messages at work, to make sure everything was on track before going to San Francisco.

    Her plane, United Flight 93, crashed in Pennsylvania, near where her grandmother was born.

    On Oct. 8, Mary White will fly to Baltimore, where her daughter grew up, for a memorial service. Then she will go to the crash site.

    WTC Power Down

    As far as the the supposed power-down is concerned, it seems the Top of the World was open for business on 09/08/2001:

    This is a curious picture.

    I'm sitting here thinking about the World Trade Center, the events of 9/11, what we lost then, and our continuing losses in the years since. I've been working on adapting the image from a now faded color photograph I took at twilight from the Staten Island Ferry in the Bicentennial summer of 1976. My color photo was pretty, but pretty is not what I think of today when I think of the World Trade Center. The twin towers haunt us now, and I was trying to evoke some of that, along with a sense of the way they both loomed and glowed in the night sky over Manhattan, two dark obelisks draped in pearls.

    They were not much loved by New Yorkers when they first went up. When T and I lived there in the sixties, the towers were just a dream in the minds of the Rockefeller brothers, and that's what New Yorkers mockingly called them at first -- David and Nelson. We were unhappy about the construction, too -- T had worked not far from there, and she mourned the thriving neighborhood near her former office that was demolished to build these monuments to Rockefeller pride. But by the time of our Bicentennial visit, the transformation was well under way, aided by the tightrope poetry of Philippe Petit and the embattled city's quest for civic pride in the "Ford to New York City: Drop Dead" years of financial crisis. I wrote about it a year ago in " Philippe Petit's walk as symbol for what we lost", reflecting on Petit's walk as a symbol of both the New York spirit and all that we have lost since 9/11.

    The Twin towers have astounded me since I was a child; I use to look at this photo of the nighttime Skyline photo on my place matt as a child in 1985. And my grandmother use to talk about the restaurant on top of the world. Not in any way saying they were a modern day idol, but they were defiantly an Icon to the world in many ways. And the destruction of the towers has no doubt changed the world in so many negative ways… I mean how often in our western culture does a Muslim get stereotyped? How often do we as western culture except a new law which takes away our rights, in the name Home land Security? How often do we have our (aus and American) troops die for 9/11?
    I am just an Aussie on the other side of the world to the twin Towers, but I have been to ground zero in 2006. On a Christmas holiday. I will contribute two photos of the twin towers pre 9/11.
    Check out this awesome epic photo… Does anyone else like this photo?

    I will contribute a shot from the Naudet Brothers Video… Days before 9/11.
    Many people can see 9/11 written clearly in this shot.

    Some really facinating photographs here.

    I was lucky enough to visit the twin towers in 1980, during a family holiday from the UK. I was enthralled by NYC generally...

    Quick Side Note....

    Phil I just noticed two similarities between your 1976 WTC pic and My Naudet 2001 WTC pic.... Do you notice the same lights? This further boosts a mechanical lighting setup in my eyes... How coincidental that the same lighting configuration appears 20 years later??
